Scholarships

2009-2010 EMTA Member Scholarship - A scholarship will be awarded to up to five graduating seniors whose parent or legal guardian is a member in good standing of the East Meadow Teachers Association.  The total amount of the scholarship will be $600 per student. Applicants must plan to attend a 2 or 4 year accredited institution.  Applicants must provide a completed application in order to be considered.  Applications must be postmarked no later than May 1, 2010.  Applications are available here.

 

2009-2010 Herman May Scholarship - A scholarship will be awarded to two qualified graduating seniors who have declared a major in Education or Nursing at a 4-year accredited institution.  The total amount of the scholarship will be $2500 per student.  One student will be selected from each high school in the East Meadow School District.  Applicants must have attended East Meadow Schools for a minimum of two years.  Students must exhibit exemplary conduct and provide a completed application in order to be considered.  Applications must be postmarked no later than May 1, 2010.  Applications are available here.

 

2010 American Federation of Teachers Robert G. Porter Scholars Program - This program offers four 4-year, $8,000 post-secondary scholarships to students who are dependents of AFT members, as well as 10 one-time $1,000 grants to AFT members to assist with their continuing education.  The deadline for applications for the 2009 Robert G. Union Plus Scholarship Program

The Union Plus Scholarship Program, sponsored by the Union Plus Education Foundation, is open to students attending or planning to attend a four-year college or university, a community college or a technical college or trade school.  Applications must be postmarked by January 31, 2010.  For more information visit:

2009-2010 Long Island Teachers Benevolent Fund Len Motisi Memorial Scholarship

Children of in-service members of NYSUT locals which are participants in the Long Island Teachers Benevolent Fund, who are high school seniors, graduating this year, and who will be attending a postsecondary institution on a full-time basis are eligible.  Criteria is based on academic achievement as evidenced by school transcripts, including a copy of SAT scores and grade point average.  Applications are due March 12th.
